NFL Wildcard Weekend Followup

Action packed! Unexpected losses! Come-from-behind wins! Passion!
Aggressive Competition!

Saturday, Jan 4:
Starting with the NY Jets monster shutout over the Indianapolis Colts, ending the game 41 - 0, holding Probowl pick and all star QB Peyton Manning to one of his worst passing games ever at 14 of 31 attempts logging only 137 yeards in the air (the worst of his 2002 season).

The Atlanta Falcons followed that monster shut out with a kill of their own over Brett Farve and the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau Field. The Falcons held the Pack to a 24 - 0 first half and only allowed them a single 14 yard pass reception after a long 4 1/2 minute drive. A field goal by Atlanta late in the 3rd quarter ended the scoring for the game and the Pack fell 24 - 7 to the Falcons.

Sunday, Jan 5:
Cleveland Browns take on the Steelers. The Browns took total control of the field the entire first half. Dominating in the air, on the ground and defensively. After a 17 - 7 halftime score, and following that with an additional 7 - 7 3rd quarter add on, the Steelers opened up a late game can of whoopass. Rallying early in the 4th quarter, the Steelers looked like the Steel Curtain of old. Shutting down the Browns running and making key plays on offense, they came back to scratch by the Browns in the last minutes of the game and win with 3 touchdowns, one of which ended in a monster 2-point conversion for a final score of 36 - 33.

San Francisco vs the Giants. This game had fight to the death written all over it. There were heated words and a shoving even before the game started. Kerry Collins' arm was on fire, passing for 29 of 43 attempts, logging a monsterous 342 total yards, 4 TDs and only 1 interception. Picking apart the 49ers defensive shot after shot. After posting a first half score of 28 - 14, both teams came out with even more fire in their eyes. The second half was marred with fights, personal fouls, and even a couple of players being ejected from the game. The 49ers refused, however, to go quietly into that good night. Achieving a monster comback, scoring 25 unanswered points starting late in the 3rd quarter to lead the Giants by one point. In the last seconds of the game, the Giants staged a great drive to get within field goal range, but lost the opportunity after a bad snap brought the holder up and scrambling. A short toss to the endzone missed its mark and the last second ticked away. A near controversial call by the officials of pass intereference ended any hopes the Giants might have had to win the game.

All in all, this weekend offered every ounce of thrilling competition that any die-hard football fan could desire.
